Smoke Detector

A device that detects smoke and sounds an alarm. Tennessee law requires working smoke detectors in every rental dwelling (TCA 68-102-151). The landlord is responsible for installation and ensuring they work at move-in. Most PMs check batteries during property walks. A missing or non-functional smoke detector is a habitability violation and a liability nightmare. One $15 detector can prevent a wrongful death lawsuit.
