Building Code

The set of regulations governing the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings. Memphis and Shelby County follow the International Building Code with local amendments. Building codes cover structural integrity, fire safety, electrical systems, plumbing, egress, and accessibility. All renovations and repairs must meet current code. Unpermitted work that violates code can result in fines, required removal, and problems when you sell.
