The federal Housing Choice Voucher Program that subsidizes rent for qualifying low-income tenants. The tenant pays a portion of rent based on income, and the government pays the rest directly to the landlord. In Memphis, Section 8 vouchers can cover a significant portion of rent on Class B and C properties. Participation is voluntary for landlords, and the property must pass a Housing Quality Standards inspection. Payment is reliable, but the inspection and paperwork requirements add administrative load.
